Rock Me to Sleep

Rock me to sleep Mother, rock me to sleep!

As I look back to the days of the past
It's hard to believe that they went so fast.
I recall the fair that came to our town,
With all its bright lights, the colorful clown.
Those were the old days when life was so bright,
Backward, turn backward, O time, in your flight.

"Make me a child again"
Me, when I was two years old

Using the sidewalk for jacks and to skate;
Long nights of summer and staying up late
To play with the neighbors. Having such fun
Watching the sunrise when day was begun.

My sister, a friend, me and my mother
1939

There was no conflict between wrong or right,
Make me a child again, just for tonight!

Rock me to sleep Mother, rock me to sleep!

My mother and I, 1939

I never knew there were problems in life,
I never knew there was trouble and strife.
Back once again to a happier day
Where skies were so sunny and never looked gray.
Take me away from the noise and the roar,
Mother come back from the echo less shore.
Rock me to sleep Mother, rock me to sleep.

My mother, Juanita Miller, 21 years old

Back once again, where cares were so few
Joys were so many and life was so new.
Turn the time back to a day sweet and mild,
Turn the time back to when I was a child.
Mother, come back through memories door,
Take me again to your heart as of yore.
Rock me to sleep, Mother, rock me to sleep.

My mother, my sister Lois and I, 1939

Rock me to sleep Mother, rock me to sleep!
