In spite of the heat we had in that month, July finished as the wettest one on record. There were some heavy rains. Rain reminds me of a time when I learned how great is God's care.
It was a hot summer day and I had taken my ten-year-old grandson Bill and his friend over to my youngest daughter's home. They had a swimming pool in their apartment complex so we spent the afternoon cooling off in the pool.
When we started for home on the Valley Highway it began to rain. I didn't know there was water on the road until suddenly I hit a wet spot and the car started spinning around in the air. We had hydroplaned and were picked up as if by a giant hand and turned around and around. It happened so fast I knew there was absolutely nothing I could do but trust in the Lord. I could only cry "Help Lord." Immediately I was filled with a calm assurance that God was still in control. The car hit the cement guardrail in the middle of the highway and when it stopped we were headed south in the northbound lanes.
By some miracle there were no other cars in those lanes. I turned around and we went to the Days Inn Coffee Shop on 120th Ave. where we could have something to drink and thank God for being with us. We were shaken but the only harm that was done was to the car. I knew the suspended feeling of being held in the air in the palm of God's hand. It's a feeling I've never forgotten. It was another reminder that miracles still happen. It isn't the first miracle I've seen. I know that when I have trouble He is always there.
I have read through the Bible many times and am convinced that it is the word of God. Over the years many people have attempted to destroy it but in spite of burnings and other destruction the Bible has survived.
I believe that Jesus DID walk on the water and that He performed many miracles that certainly wouldn't be understood by some man-made computer. Jesus was either God as He claimed or He was a lunatic, the biggest fraud and liar in history.
I feel sorry for people who have no faith in the Lord. How sad it would be to think that life is given to us just as a coincidence and that we have no future or no purpose for our life.
The happiest people on earth are those who know beyond a doubt that God has a plan for each life and that because Jesus did rise from the dead we have something to look forward to and there is hope that this life is not all there is.
