The Rabbit and the Turtle
When Jesus lived on this earth
He called attention to a poor woman in the temple who gave her last money
for God's work. Jesus told His disciples that the poor woman was far greater
than the rich people who gave only a small part of what they owned and
then told everyone about how good they were. He said that we should be
humble and not think too highly of ourselves. When Jesus was on this
earth He served others.

Once upon a time there was a rabbit who could run faster than any other animal in the forest. The forest creatures had races, but the rabbit could run so fast, soon none of the other forest animals would try to race him. They knew they didn't stand a chance.
This made the rabbit sad because he loved to run and show everyone how fast he was.
"I'm the fastest animal in the forest," he bragged. "And I'm the best looking one. No one can beat me. "
The other animals tried to ignore him but he kept bragging about himself. One day the rabbit could stand it no longer.
"Come on you weaklings," he hollered, "someone has got to race against me. What a bunch of wimps you are!"
All the forest creatures stood and watched him. No one was going to agree to race the rabbit. They were quite surprised when a turtle came forward.
"I'll race you," the turtle slowly said.
"You?" The rabbit laughed so hard he fell over.
"Sure," the turtle said. "I'm not afraid to race you.."
"All right," the rabbit laughed. "Ho-ho, watch this. This is going to be good."
The race began. The rabbit took off with a great leap. The little turtle crawled. Everyone knew he could never win a race against the fastest rabbit in the forest.
The rabbit didn't run very long.
"Why should I hurry?" he said. He looked at his image in the water. "My aren't I handsome?"
The rabbit ran for a short distance, then he stopped. It was such a nice day he decided to take a little nap. "Why should I hurry?" he asked himself? "I have plenty of time to take a nap. A nap will feel good." Bragging had made him tired.
The rabbit laid down and went to sleep. He slept for a lo-oo-ong time. He didn't see the turtle walking past him.
The turtle kept walking and before the rabbit woke up he crossed the finish line.
The loud cheering from the other animals awakened the rabbit. "Oh, my goodness," he said as he yawned. "Where did he come from?"
From that time forward whenever the rabbit started to brag about how fast he was the forest animals reminded him that the slow poke turtle had beat him.
We should always be careful about bragging. We might have to eat our words!
